HMV has clearly invested a considerable amount of time and money in their social media and community strategy.
Their Get Closer site is currently in beta, but it’s well worth a look. Like ASOS and Barnes & Noble, HMV have created a very sophisticated community site that encourages customers to share their views and experiences with [...]
Home Retail Group, which owns Argos and Homebase, announced figures for the year to 28 February 2009 this morning. Overall, like-for-like sales dropped by 4.8% at Argos and by 10.2% at Homebase.
However, Argos’ online sales were up 22%. As you’d expect, they go into quite a lot of detail about their multi-channel performance:
The internet accounted for [...]
N Brown generated £225 million online in the year to 28 Feb. That’s 34% of all sales. Apparently online orders tend to be 25% than orders placed through other channels, driven by “wider ranges available on our websites and the ease of searching and browsing the entire offering”.
ASOS says that sales grew 104% to £165m in the 12 months to March 31, 2009, as reported by Retail Week.
Their international sales have shot up by 173% in the four-weeks to April 24.
This is a good example of a retailer using e-mail marketing and landing pages really well.
The latest e-mail from Sainsbury’s below could not be clearer. For £5 the customer can choose two main courses, two side dishes, and two desserts from their Italian range.
When the customer clicks on the e-mail, they are taken to a custom landing page. On this page [...]
As I continue to trawl through recent financials, it’s interesting to compare two leading UK retailers.
Next Directory delivered £816 million in sales for the 12 months to Jan 09. Like many leading retailers, the Chief Executive’s review reveals further investment is planned in the coming year, and mentions that over 60% of orders are from [...]
Debenhams are next to provide financial results, only half-year up to 28 Feb. In their case Debenhams Direct is up 29.7% on the same period last year and accounts for 2.1% of total sales.
Is this the first listed UK retailer to mention Twitter in their financial statements ? I think so.
GAME’s online business delivered great numbers over the year to 31 Jan. Sales were up 85% to £106.8 million, which is about 5.4% of total company revenues. Interestingly the sales increase was delivered from just 39% increase in visitor numbers.
Looking through Tesco’s impressive annual results announced this morning, I see that Tesco.com generated £1.9 billion in sales (20% up on last year against 4.3% LFL for the UK business), with a profit of £109 million after £22 million trading loss on Tesco Direct. Total UK sales were £41.5 billion, so it looks like .com [...]
I noticed that our Snow Valley Twitter account had another new follower this morning – New Look’s HR department.
They have a Twitter account called NewLook_Careers. It prompted me to take a look at the New Look Careers site and I was suitably impressed. The site is excellent, dedicated solely to recruitment and covers everything a job seeker could [...]
