This will be my final post of the year (I’ve gone a bit post-mad today, I know) but I thought it was worth doing a quick summary of the Christmas statistics we’ve seen flying around and whether the predictions came true.
The short answer is that the majority do appear to have been met: so far, [...]
As promised, we’ve been keeping a close eye on the promotions and features that online retailers in the UK and US have been using in the run up to Christmas 2007.
I’ve produced a brief overview of 12 trends and ideas I’ve noticed. Some of these are very obvious, others less so. In each case [...]
Several retailers have already posted online sales growth figures for Christmas 2007:
John Lewis reported back in December that online sales were up 40% on 2006. They attributed this to a relaunched e-commerce operation and more products being sold online, but I bet the free delivery on every online order helped as well. Interestingly the JL website [...]
I imagine most e-commerce managers feel like Christmas is already over and now it’s sale time, but before we move on for another year I thought I’d bring you one last little promotional tool that I noticed.
Net-a-Porter have got a device called Santa’s Little Helper, where customers can fill in some details and then send [...]
According to IMRG, Monday 10th December was expected to be the busiest day for online shopping. I looked at 7 Snow Valley clients to see if this had been the case and was quite surprised by what I found:

Topshop has launched a widget on Facebook called ‘The Fashion Fix’. You add it to your profile and then it lets you view the latest items of clothing, decide whether to ‘love it’ or ‘lose it’ and share it with your friends. They’re also running a competition to encourage people to install it.
There’s a press [...]
HMV has announced a 9.5% increase in total sales for the 6 months to 27 October. They don’t specify how well the web has performed, other than to highlight that ’significant enhancements to HMV.com and Waterstones.com’ are ‘delivering rapid sales growth’.
However, they do draw attention to Waterstone’s multi-channel loyalty card, which they say has attracted [...]
Another idea for online marketing at Christmas comes from Thorntons – they’ve launched a microsite called Thorntons Christmas Countdown:
Each day for the next 14 days, the customer clicks on a truffle to see if they have won a prize
If they don’t, they get another try if they provide the e-mail addresses of three friends
They’ve teamed [...]
I see that Fat Face has launched a Facebook widget – The Fantastic Fat Face Gift Giveaway.
Users install the widget onto their profile pages
They send virtual Fat Face gifts to their Facebook friends
The friends install the widget to receive their virtual gift and see if they’ve won a real prize
Watch this space for my notes [...]
As Carlo reported back in March, Premier Farnell is continuing to lead the field in terms of B2B e-commerce. This week, they announced an overall sales increase of 4% to £185m, but more importantly they are on track for 50% of their sales to be online by 2008, a year ahead of schedule.
What is [...]
